You Think You've Got It Rough?
Why hello there! It’s been a while. (As you no doubt can tell, I’ve been on blog hiatus. Guilty as charged.)
So July 16th has come and (is almost) gone, and Nancy is still waiting for her copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to arrive. It was ordered via Amazon.com and shipped by none other than (drum roll) UPS. Estimated delivery: Today. The time right now? Too late for delivery. For all she knows, it’s still sitting on a delivery truck in Bound Brook, New Jersey.
Nancy’s quite the rabid Harry Potter fan, so she’s obviously had an extremely rough day with the book being late. Oh yeah, a whole lotta brooding going on. “I should have just bought it at the bookstore. <groan> I was really looking forward to reading it this weekend!”
Well - take heart, Nance. At least you don’t live in Antarctica, making a tag-team family “road trip” each year at around three km/h in sub-zero temperatures.
Lex, Nancy and I just returned from seeing March of the Penguins (a.k.a. The Emperor’s Journey for our visiting readers outside the U.S.) at our nearby, trusty one-screen Chatham Cinema.
Simply put: If you have children, consider taking them to see this film. Actually, if they saw and liked Winged Migration you have probably already gone to see this film. What’s it about? Read this plot summary for the scoop. I’d say “kindergarten age” or so is appropriate (but that’s me - YMMV). There are some sad moments, some triumphant ones as well, and the kids will likely have a whole lot of questions. Other than that, I think they’ll be glued to their booster seats and/or your laps all the while.
As for the three of us, there was some major parent/child bonding action over pizza and salad afterward. Sure, Lex is glad he isn’t a penguin. But I also think he now appreciates who he is and what he has (family, friends, etc.) on an entirely new level.
Meanwhile, I know Nancy will get her Harry Potter fix soon enough. As for me, I’m getting my Pro Tools fix at the moment. Or at least I will be once I post this.
“… and another thing!” There might be an impending Broadside Electric concert announcement … slated for mid-August … possibly somewhere in Morris County, New Jersey, possibly outdoors, possibly in a really really big park. Keep your fingers crossed.
